TWENTY-THREE artistes are among 275 people from the entertainment industry who have been declared bankrupt for failing to repay their loans.
Harian Metro reported that some of the artistes, some of whom were popular household names, were declared bankrupt from as far back as 20 years ago and had been ordered to repay their debts in instalments.
Some were expected to face stiff action from authorities when they absconded after having coughed up the paltry sum of RM50 as repayment and refusing to heed the advice of the Insolvency Depart-ment.
Its director-general Datuk Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil said 10 artistes were declared bankrupt for failing to pay their hire purchase loans while six were blacklisted for defaulting on their business loans and three had stood as guarantors.
Two others failed to pay their credit card loans and another two did not settle their housing loans or file income tax forms.
