I want to be a porn star

As far as her mother in Singapore knows, Ms Audrey Tan, 27, works in a university in New Zealand.

She has no inkling that her daughter had enlarged her breasts, entered a Miss Erotica competition, and won.

Neither does she know that her daughter's ambition is to be a porn star.

Ms Tan became the first Asian to be crowned Miss Erotica in August for her work as a nude model in New Zealand.

She said her mother, who manages a chain of hair and beauty salons here, will probably find out about her involvement in the sex industry from The New Paper today.

"I'm sure my mum will be shocked, but I don't think she'll be entirely surprised," said Ms Tan. "She's a typical Asian mum who wanted me to become a doctor or a lawyer.

"Working in the adult industry is just another career path, but maybe not what she had in mind for me."

She said she can cope with her mum's reaction but requested that we do not contact her mother or any other family members as she is very protective of them.

"Mum will initially be shocked, but more because I had my breasts done," Ms Tan continued.

"I don't think it will be too much of a surprise that I'm working in the adult industry - I have always been somewhat of a rebel.

"But I think by the time I go back later this year, she would have overcome it and will be talking to me as usual."

Ms Tan was voted the most popular sex siren in New Zealand in a two-week public poll that saw her beat eight other contestants.

The contest was organised by adult-theme events organiser Erotica Lifestyles Expo.

Ms Tan, a New Zealand permanent resident, still holds a Singapore passport and considers herself a Singaporean despite having moved to New Zealand with her father and stepmother when she was four years old.
