Unlike his blissfully wedded character in his latest movie The Wedding Diary, things are not fine and dandy in the Ah-niu household.
In fact, the gifted Malaysian actor-musician admits that "My real life and reel life (marriage) are two different experiences.
"My real marriage was like a flash bulb. It happened too fast."
However, Ah-niu declines to discuss his domestic issues in public out of concern for his 11-year-old daughter - who is now being raised by his family in Penang.
"Please have mercy on me," he pleads, hands clasped.
It is believed that the 36-year-old and his Taiwanese wife have been living separate lives for the past two years.
The low-key couple tied the knot on the quiet in 2001. Quoting Ah-niu: "It was just a simple wedding, with our two families sitting down for a dinner."
"He won't talk about his marital problems," his personal aide further tells The Daily Chilli. "It's just too personal and too hurtful for his daughter."
The Wedding Diary, a Singapore-Malaysia joint production, is directed by Adrian Teh.
Ah-niu aside, the feel good romantic comedy stars Elanne Kwong, Kara Hui, Jack Choo, Marcus Chin, Maggie Theng, Shaun Chen and Chris Tong.
Distributed by GSC, the movie opens in Malaysian cinemas on Feb 9.
