POLICE in Pamekasan regency on the East Java Island of Madura have intensified their monitoring of Internet cafes across the town, which have seen a drastic surge in the number of visitors following the spread of sex videos featuring the country's celebrities.
Pamekasan Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Mas Gunarso said Wednesday the police were working together with the local administration in conducting Internet cafe checks.
"We have taken anticipatory measures by arranging impromptu visits to the Internet cafes," Gunarso told Antara state news agency.
He added the operation would particularly target schoolchildren.
Regent Kholilurrahman supported the police measures and asked public order officers to work hand in hand with the police in monitoring the Internet cafes and conducting checks on students' cell phones to see if they contained the porn clips.
The National Police summoned three high-profile celebrities - boyband Peterpan lead singer Nazril "Ariel" Irham, and TV presenters Luna Maya and Cut Tari - on Wednesday in relation to the sex videos, which have been circulating on the Internet.
