An accident on the set of the Transformers 3 movie has left a woman with serious head injuries, said news reports yesterday.

Ms Gabriela Cedillo, a 24-year-old movie extra, was driving her car as part of a scene for the movie when a stunt for the scene went horribly wrong.

Ms Cedillo, who has been pursuing a passion for acting while working a regular job at a bank, was injured last Wednesday. According to Fox News, witnesses said a cable snapped, whipping through her windshield and hitting her in the head.

She is now recovering from brain surgery.

The last day of filming in Chicago had been scheduled for last Thursday, but it was called off because of the accident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Gabriela, her family and loved ones," the film production team said in a written statement. "We are looking into what caused the accident."

According to news reports, Ms Cedillo has been doing well after surgery. Her brother, Adan, told the Chicago Tribune that although his sister remains unconscious, doctors and family are hopeful because they have noticed some movement as she sleeps. She has not been able to speak.
