Budget 2015 to address needs of all Singaporeans: DPM Tharman

SINGAPORE - Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has said that this year's Budget will be about building Singapore's future, and that it will address the needs "today and tomorrow" of all Singaporeans.

Mr Tharman made the comments today at a National University of Singapore event.

He said that the Government is "doing the final shaping" of the Silver Support Package for needy senior citizens. The Budget will provide greater assurance to lower-income senior citizens, or "those who have had low wages for a good part of their lives".

This year's Budget will be about building the future, Mr Tharman said. "For the elderly, that means assurance in retirement. For the young and the middle-aged, it means good and fulfilling careers."

For families with children, it also means that Singapore has to be a good place to raise children, with affordable and quality education for them, he said.

When asked if the Budget will address the needs of single mothers here, Mr Tharman stressed that the Budget is for "everyone".
