OCBC launches stockbroking app with biometrics feature

SINGAPORE - OCBC recently launched a stockbroking app for iPhones that comes with the biometric fingerprint authentication for both added security and easy access.

The iOCBC TradeMobile app allows OCBC Securities customers with an online account to view their stock portfolios once they have signed in the bank's OneTouch technology.

OneTouch, which reportedly cost the bank less than $100,000 to develop, essentially makes use of Apple's Touch ID technology. All users have to do is activate OneTouch once, and they should be able to use fingerprint authentication for subsequent log-ins.

Designed to be more intuitive, the brokerage hopes iOCBC TradeMobile will help customers access timely market information on the go and perform trades effortlessly.

Other than viewing stock portfolios, traders can also use the app to conduct in-depth market research. They can analyse stocks with the charting function, which gives them the option of toggling between different graph styles, including candlestick graphs, in viewing historical stock prices.

In addition, they will be able to compare historical stock prices with commonly used indicators such as the Simple Moving Average, Relative Strength Index (RSI) and Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) for a more in-depth understanding of the stock price movements.

"With the new iOCBC TradeMobile app, our customers now have detailed, real-time information about the markets and about their portfolios at their fingertips, which will undoubtedly help them make better investment decisions," said Mr Raymond Chee, Managing Director of OCBC Securities.

The app also features a customisable home page and a dual language function that enables users to view content in Mandarin.

The iOCBC TradeMobile app is now available for download for free on the Apple App Store. Those using the iPhone 5s, 6, 6 Plus, 6s and 6s Plus models will be able to use OneTouch.

OCBC Securities also said in the statement that it is working on a version of the app for iPad and Android models, to be released later this year.
