Say hello with a 7.8cm Hello Kitty flip-phone

If you can't get enough of Hello Kitty, you can now literally say "hello" to the popular bobtail cat which you can carry in your pocket.

That is because Japanese company OLA Inc has produced a Hello Kitty flip-phone to cater to the undying appeal of fans.

And yes, it's every Hello Kitty fan's dream come true, bursting with cuteness and retro vibe.

But don't expect to connect with the world the same way you might with your smartphone.

Its functions are largely limited to basic ones - SMS, phone calls, a home screen and an address book - even if it is a 3G phone equipped with a micro USB slot, and can support WiFi and Bluetooth.

While it's a far cry from today's Android or iOS operating systems, it can support VoIP calls, or data calls, similar to calls over Skype and WhatsApp, reported Japan website Rocketnews24.

The screen on the phone is painfully small at 1.54 inches - conventional smartphones like the iPhone 6 have a 4.7-inch display.

If you are looking for a no-frills phone with a statement, this 7.8cm phone - no bigger than your palm - is something to consider.

It will be apt for kids who are getting their first phone, or even the elderly.

The 12,000 yen (S$148) Hello Kitty flip phone will only be available from May 26. In the meantime, pre-orders from Amazon started on Wednesday (April 27).
