Thomas Ong to quit showbiz

Thomas Ong fans, you won't be seeing him on TV sometime soon.

The local actor-host has announced that he's bowing out of the spotlight next year.

He made the decision after thinking it over for half a year, Thomas told Shin Min Daily News on Thursday (Aug 29).

His swansong? A TV drama with the working title "SuperDad", slated to be aired in June 2020.

"I won't be filming anymore," he said.

Age is catching up on the 50-year-old actor who mentioned that he's exhausted from filming and wants to start doing something different.

Will he regret his decision if he comes across a good script after his retirement?

"It doesn't matter to me," he said.

Thomas has already made plans for the future, but the soon to be ex-actor doesn't want to reveal them until the "time is right."

Since he made his debut in Channel 8 crime drama Dr Justice in 1994, Thomas went on to land a number of leading and supporting roles in local TV productions.

On top of being one of Singapore's most popular actors, he has clinched several 'Top 10 Most Popular Male Artist' awards and bagged 'Best Actor' nominations at the Star Awards.

In recent years, the actor has turned his attention to charity work and has built and funded two schools in Cambodia.
