EVA Air launches gudetama-themed flight from Taiwan to Tokyo

Taiwanese airline EVA Airways literally sent a lazy egg into the skies on Thursday (Nov 24) with its maiden launch of the first Gudetama-themed jet, Boardingarea.com reported.

Gudetama is the latest Sanrio character to enjoy immense popularity. The nonchalent, drowsy egg cartoon character is mostly seen sleeping under a bacon blanket.

The gudetama-themed jet, an Airbus A321, operates from Taipei's Taoyuan International Airport and Tokyo's Narita International Airport with flights BR196 and BR195.

Passengers can also expect to be hit by a splash of bright yellow trimmings in the plane. Everything from plastic cups to playing cards are stamped with the lazy egg cartoon. There are even Gudetama pillows, guaranteed to put you in the perfect mood for a snooze.

In line with the launch, Eva Air has introduced a promotion for flight tickets from Taipei to Tokyo. Passengers can enjoy a NT$500 (S$22.42) discount with the promotion code "gudetama" from Nov 24 to Dec 14.

This is not the first time Sanrio has collaborated with the carrier.

A Hello Kitty-themed jet was first launched in 2005. When the idea took off, EVA Air introduced more Hello Kitty-themed flight services between Singapore, Taipei and Houston in 2015.

There are only seven of these jets in the world and Singapore is the first South-east Asian country to host one.

The Singapore jet comes with an exclusive theme - the EVA Air Hello Kitty Shining Star jet, which features Hello Kitty, My Melody and Little Twin Stars Kiki and Lala.
