Hong Kong makes a delightful destination for families seeking a way to celebrate the end of 2016.

1. Disney's Sparkling Christmas

From mid-November till January 2, Hong Kong Disneyland pulls out all the stops to become the Christmas kingdom of your dreams.

2. Hong Kong WinterFest

For the month of December, all the way through to the first of January, Hong Kong will deck its halls with blazing lights and decorations with such exuberance that even the most Scrooge-like visitor will feel the spirit of the season overtake him.

The epicentre of this fantastic display is Statue Square, in Central.

WinterFest also includes special sales and seasonal menus at stores and eateries.

Make sure you don't miss the spectacular Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show in Tsim Sha Tsui, where laser elves with state-of-the-art technology bring the neighbourhood to pulsating life with a stunning light show.

3. Victoria Harbour Countdown

The New Year's Eve countdown in Central is one of the highlights of the city's calendar.

A great vantage point to catch the show is on the Tsim Sha Tsui side, especially the Promenade and Avenue of the Stars.

The whole strip, from the ferry terminal to the New World Centre, brims with merriment, and you'll surely feel the excitement as the fireworks explode, the clock ticks down, and the new year blooms into life.

4. Countdown Cruise

If regular year-end festivities on land just aren't cutting it, head to the high seas for a one-of-a-kind New Year party with a front row view of the downtown fireworks away from the crowds.

On board this celebratory junk, you'll have access to a fantastic night view, a tasty menu and an open bar, replete with a bubbly toast when the clock strikes twelve to usher in the new year.

From 2 December to the first of January, Statue Square will play host to a 15 metre high, classic Christmas tree.

Attractions include appearances by Santa Claus and his friends and classic carols performed by a delightful choir.

Photo ops abound, and this year you'll also be able to hang your "Love Locks" on the railings.

You can bring your own lock or purchase a charity Love Lock for $50.

6. The AIA Great European Carnival

This magnificent carnival, held from 16 December 2016 till 12 February 2017 in Central Harbourfront, brings a taste of excitement and thrill to Hong Kong.

Some of the world's best rides and attractions will delight your senses and fill the whole family with holiday cheer.

There will also be stage performances, a selection of children's shows and a visit from Santa Claus himself!
