The Clementi Mall officially opens today

SINGAPORE - The Clementi Mall, the new shopping hub in the west, was officially opened by Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and NTUC Secretary-General, and Dr Tony Tan, Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), this afternoon.

More than 120 invited guests joined in the the joyous celebrations that included the traditional ribbon-cutting, an eye-catching lion dance and an exhilarating drum performance at the first full-fledged mall in the Clementi area.

The Clementi Mall is the result of a successful bid by CM Domain Pte Ltd, a joint venture between SPH-subsidiary, Times Properties Pte Ltd, NTUC Income and NTUC FairPrice, in November 2009.

Positioned as a contemporary and mid-market mall, The Clementi Mall is poised to enjoy a good catchment from Clementi Town, West Coast and the Holland-Bukit Timah area, where key tertiary institutions such as National University of Singapore, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, and SIM University are located.

The Clementi Mall is a five-storey retail podium with two basements, and it is part of the first mixed use development built by HDB. Besides the retail podium, the development also houses two residential blocks of 388 HDB units, the West Coast Town Council (Clementi Office) and a new air-conditioned bus interchange.

The suburban mall obtained its first Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) in January this year and was 100 per cent leased even ahead of its completion in March. The mall's anchor tenants include FairPrice Finest, Best Denki, Foodfare foodcourt, BHG departmental store, Popular Bookstore and the Clementi Public Library.

Besides these, the mall also offers a variety of well-loved brands for shoppers. Fashion and accessories labels such as Charles & Keith, Cache Cache, Cotton On, Denizen, Giordano, Skechers and G2000 can be found on Level 3. Lifestyle, sports and electrical shops like Aussino, Arena, Challenger and World Of Sports are on Level 4, while family and kids brands such as Chateau De Sable, Kiddy Palace and Fox Kids are located on Level 5.

Almost all the tenants have started operations except for a few which are putting up the finishing touches to their shops. Since the mall started its operations in January, it has witnessed a constant flow of traffic daily. The traffic is mainly from the town centre as well as from the Clementi MRT station, which is conveniently linked to the mall via a pedestrian bridge on the third level, and from the temporary bus interchange across the street.

Visitorship to the mall is expected to increase when the new air-conditioned bus interchange on Level 1, which has direct access to the mall, opens sometime in the middle of this year.

SPH Chairman, Dr Tony Tan, said, "Although SPH's core business remains in print, we are encouraged by the success in our property ventures. We are confident that The Clementi Mall will deliver positive results and add a valuable contribution to our property portfolio."

To celebrate its official opening, the mall and its tenants have lined up many exciting activities and special privileges for shoppers starting 21 May to 26 June 2011.
