Man lives with dead baby in kitchen for a week

GEORGE TOWN - A man did not realise that there was a dead baby in his rented flat in Jalan Lintang Madrasah, Jelutong here, even though there was a strong stench in the premises for the past week.

It was only when his girlfriend went over to his place that they stumbled upon the gruesome discovery - a highly decomposed body of a newborn baby boy.

The infant, wrapped in a black plastic bag, was in a dustbin in the kitchen.

The man, in his 20s, then called the police on Tuesday night to inform them of the discovery.

He told the police that he was renting the unit with three others, including two women, and that the foul smell had been around since June 4.

He said his girlfriend, also in her 20s, could not tolerate the stench, and she took the dustbin out of the house.

It was then that they discovered the body.

He also claimed that the two female tenants, also in their 20s, had left the house since June 4.

George Town acting OCPD Supt Ismail Toh Paduka Idris said they were trying to locate them.

He said investigations showed that the baby had died over a week ago, adding that the cause of death could not be ascertained.
