Former Attorney-General Tan Boon Teik dies at 83

Former Attorney-General (AG) Tan Boon Teik passed away on Saturday at the age of 83.

He is survived by wife Sook Yee, children Pip Tan Seng Hin and Tan Sui Lin, and five grandchildren.

He was acting AG from 1967 to 1968 and received the full appointment in 1969. He retired in 1992.

Mr Tan was the longest serving AG in post-independence Singapore.

He graduated from University College London with an Honours degree in law in 1951 and received his Masters of Laws degree two years later.

He took over from Professor Ahmad Ibrahim as acting AG on Feb 1, 1967 and was succeeded by current Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong in May 1992.
