84 surveillance cameras mounted on wooden pole? Unusual sight in China becomes tourist attraction

A village in China has recently sparked heated debate online after it was found to have 84 CCTV cameras installed on a singular wooden pole.

According to Chinese media reports, it is located in Pingxiang, Jiangxi Province.

Footage shared online shows the cameras densely packed and facing different directions along the length of the wooden pole.

Netizens were quick to poke fun at the unusual sight, with some joking that there are more cameras than birds perched on trees, while another joked that there are no blind spots.

While there are 84 cameras installed on the pole, only one of them is functional, said a village official in response to Chinese media.

The rest are faulty and are keep there for decorative decorative purposes, the official said.

The wooden pole was installed by a camping base in the village a few years ago, and has become a popular spot for taking photos.

The official also said that it intends to install signage at the area to clarify any misunderstandings, in event that tourists visit the city and believe that all the cameras are functional.

Zhong (transliterated), who is in charge of the campsite, said that he felt inspired to create a work of art after seeing a bunch of old, unused surveillance cameras.
