Apple wants its streaming service to compete for the Oscars

According to the latest reports, Apple is busy talking to directors and talents about projects with Oscar-winning potential.
Spurred by Netflix's Oscar success, Apple is said to be looking to spend about US$5 million to US$30 million (S$6.8 million to S$40 million) per project for its upcoming Apple TV+ video streaming service.
This sounds meagre considering production costs these days and the fact that Apple is sitting on over US$200 billion in cash.
Announced earlier this year, Apple TV+ will launch later this year and will go up against Netflix and Disney+.
Unlike its rivals, Apple enters the streaming wars without its own library of original content to show.
However, during March's launch event, the tech giant announced that it is working with big names like Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, J.J. Abrams, and more to produce original shows.
At WWDC 2019 just weeks ago, Apple also showed the trailer of For All Mankind - one of its new shows that will headline Apple TV+ when it launches later this year.

Apple, with its tremendous financial reserves, should put up a good fight for talent against Netflix and Disney.
At any rate, it's a great time to be a couch potato.
