Borderlands 3's main story has a 35-hour duration

Borderlands fans are in for a treat — the upcoming sequel's main story will have a duration of 35 hours.

The creative director of the third instalment of the action role-play title, Paul Sage, has revealed that the main story will see gamers embark on a journey through multiple different worlds.

"I think there was a lot of ambition right at the beginning,” he told Venturebeat. “The length of the game being 35 hours, if you just go through the main story — that's not including doing too many side missions.”

It was also revealed that the upcoming title won't have co-op partners competing for loot. Gearbox Software's art director Scott Kester commented that gamers will have their "own discrete loot stream" so there will be "no more loot ninjas" to contend with like there was in the previous game in the franchise.

He said: "Regardless of your respective levels or mission progress, you and your friends can play together online or on the couch, and not only will each of you deal a meaningful amount of damage, but you'll also receive your own discrete loot stream. No more loot ninjas!"

It was previously reported that the publishers are considering cross-play for the upcoming sequel.

The upcoming title — part of one of the studio's most popular series — is set to be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on September 13, although the latter will first drop as an Epic Games Store exclusive before following on Steam in April 2020.

Asked about the possibility of cross-play between consoles, a 2K spokesperson teased: "Cross-play is something we're looking at closely, but we don't have anything to confirm or announce at this time."

The feature had been advertised on the Microsoft Store listing under the game's Capabilities, but it was later removed from the listing.
