Cyberpunk 2077 world much denser than The Witcher 3

CD Projekt Red's highly-anticipated action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077 holds a world much denser than The Witcher 3.

The studio compared the settings for the two titles and revealed how the studio built the living environment for the upcoming game with the goal of making it "a protagonist" in its own right.

Speaking to Gamesradar, producer Richard Borzymowski said: "If you look at pure surface, right — square kilometres — then Cyberpunk 2077 might be a little bit smaller than The Witcher 3."

"But when it comes to the density of content, you basically take the world of The Witcher and squeeze it right in, deleting the wilderness between this."

He clarified the differences between the environments of the two games — The Witcher is an open world with vast lanes and forests with cities in between, but in Cyberpunk 2077, it's all Night City.

"It's an integral part of the setting; it's essentially a protagonist if you want to call it that, so it has to be denser. It wouldn't give us the end effect we wanted to achieve if the city wouldn't be believable... so we packed it full of life."

Earlier this year, the game's UI coordinator Alvin Liu revealed that he expects the game to have expansions further growing the world after its initial launch in April 2020.

He explained how the team "want to build open worlds" after they have made sure that everything in the main game is complete. As such, he believes that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to have opportunities similar to The Witcher 3 in terms of downloadable content.

The game is expected to launch on April 16, 2020.
