Facebook taps Crypt TV for string of five new horror series

Facebook is continuing its investment in original programming and has extended its content partnership with Crypt TV -- giving the green light for the digital studio to create a slate of five horror and monster-themed series exclusively for Facebook Watch.

Crypt TV -- founded in 2015 by Eli Roth and Jack Davis and backed by Jason Blum -- currently boasts 3 million followers on Facebook and initially launched with the social media giant as its primary exclusive platform in the first two years of the company.

This fresh deal, reported on by Variety marks one of the first for a full slate of content from a digital partner -- as opposed to deals for one-off shows -- and will see the social media giant fund five new series, each approximately 10 episodes, under the pact.

The end goal for Facebook, according to the report, is to build a personalized, social-video experience for Facebook Watch from digital partners like Crypt TV that have a strong brand and loyal following on Facebook -- and so far it seems to be working: according to the company, approximately 140 million people come to Facebook Watch, nearly doubling in six months; with viewers spending an average of 26 minutes per day watching video.
