The final chapter of the Sim Settlements 2 mod for Fallout 4 has been released

In February, I wrote about the impressive Fen's Sheriff Department mod for Fallout 4 and since then I have not been keeping up to date with what has been happening in the mod scene for Bethesda's post-apocalyptic action role-playing game. In that article, I mention another DLC-sized mod called Sim Settlements 2 which has just received its third and final chapter.

Sim Settlements 2 is one of my favourite mods for Fallout 4 and it might just make me reinstall the game just to experience its ending. The mod is extremely well-made and can easily be mistaken for official content as it adds new characters with professionally done voice acting, a well-written and intriguing storyline and a lot of new quests that will extend your playtime.

Another reason why I really like this mod is due to its overhauled settlement system. If you thought the settlement-building part of the game was a chore due to the amount of manual labour you had to do, Sim Settlements 2 adds the ability for you to plop down building plots for various buildings such as residences, shops, facilities and watchtowers and have your settlers build it for you. Of course, you can still do things manually if you like but the new system gives you more time to engage in this story while your settlement takes care of itself.

You can either build a welcoming settlement or a stronghold. PHOTO: Kinggath

Essentially, this mod turns the settlement building and management part into a pseudo-real-time strategy game as you can also assign specific roles to your settlers. You will not have to worry about running out of essential items such as food, water and building materials as your settlers will handle that for you. You can even plan out a caravan network that lets you then share resources throughout your various settlements.

The other huge part of this mod is its story which involves the Gunners faction and their plans to take over the Commonwealth by force. As expected, it is up to you to form alliances and lead the charge against the Gunners who have brought with them dangerous reinforcements.

In Chapter 3 of the mod, the development team have added a slew of new content that includes multiple endings, new weapons, buildings, companions, unique settlers and more. While this may be the end of the main story, the team is also planning to add a new Prebuild System that will pre-populate the world with randomised settlements each time you start a new game.

The final chapter of Sim Settlements 2 could not have been released at a better time because Fallout 4 is currently on sale on Steam and with a whopping 75 per cent discount for its Game of the Year edition. So if you are interested in replaying Fallout 4 or just want to dive into a modded playthrough, I highly recommend downloading Sim Settlements 2. Head on over to the mod's official site to download the mod.

As always, be sure to read the instructions carefully and you might also want to check out the suggested mods in the wiki.
