Netflix just wrapped filming on its upcoming Witcher series

It appears that Netflix has completed filming its upcoming series based on The Witcher, a series of fantasy novels-turned-RPG-video games with a cult following.
The Witcher’s cast and crew posted fond social media farewells to film locations in Hungary, Poland, and Spain.
Superhero star Henry Cavill will don a white wig to play titular monster-slayer Geralt of Rivia, supported by Lars Mikkelsen (brother of Mads), and Adam Levy. The Witcher will also feature Jodhi May, who briefly appeared as Game of Thrones’ sinister seer, Maggy the Frog.
Most notably, the show’s narrative source material will come from the original novels by Andrzej Sapokowski, rather than the video game adaptations. The books remain wildly popular in Sapokowski’s native Poland along with other Central and Eastern European countries; the story is set on a medieval-style European-like landmass simply called “the Continent.”
While The Witcher won’t air until later this year, there’s plenty of time to speculate on what’s going to go down. Netflix’s foray into a heavy-hitting fantasy series seems like a reasonable play to fill the upcoming Game of Thrones-shaped hole in our hearts.

Many video game film adaptations (we’re looking at you, Tomb Raider), include recognisable game mechanics in big action sequences, so hopefully we’ll get to see some distinctive combat combos, or even The Witcher’s morality and time-delay mechanics woven into the plot.
