Pokemon World Championships to be held in Singapore in August 2027

Singapore will host the Pokemon World Championships come August 2027, The Pokemon Company said on Monday (Aug 31).

The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the current Pokemon World Championships held in San Francisco.

The tournament will take place at Singapore Expo from Aug 13 to 15, 2027, with Championship Sunday, the event's grand finals, set to be held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Pokemon World Championships brings together players from around the globe to compete for the title of World Champion, along with prize money and other rewards.

In 2026, the prize pool was over $2 million, split across the Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG), Pokemon Video Game Championships, Pokemon Go and Pokemon Unite.

More details on the 2027 Pokemon World Championships will be announced at a later date.

New Pokemon movie

A new Pokemon movie is also slated for release in early 2027, The Pokemon Company said.

Titled Pokémon: Wild Card, the feature-length animated film will be produced by Story Inc., which worked on Makoto Shinkai films Suzume and Weathering With You, and CloverWorks, the Japanese animation studio behind popular anime series Spy x Family.

Separately, Z Mega Evolutions will also debut in Pokemon Champions come Sept 9, 2026, according to The Pokemon Company.

This means Mega Lucario Z, Mega Garchomp Z and Mega Absol Z, alongside Baxcalibur and Rillaboom will become available in Pokemon Champions.

Singapore as a TCG hub

The Pokemon Company's announcement comes just hours after Konami announced that the 2027 Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships will be held in Singapore.

Their decision was made public at the end of the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championships this year, although details on the exact dates, venue and qualification requirements have yet to be announced.
