Upcoming iPhones said to have new Taptic Engine and creative wide-angle feature

9to5Mac claims to have new information on the 2019 iPhone lineup.

Based on information provided by its sources who've seen the devices, Apple is expected to introduce a new type of Taptic Engine which will improve Haptic Touch and potentially replace 3D Touch. The iOS 13 developer beta has provided hints that 3D Touch could be replaced by a new long-press gesture for contextual actions.

The sources also confirmed the third camera module seen on many mock-ups and renders is indeed a wide-angle lens. They reveal that there would be a new feature, Smart Frame which captures the area around the framed area in photos and videos so that users can adjust the framing or apply automatic perspective and crop corrections. The extra information will be kept temporarily and removed automatically for privacy reasons.

The front-facing camera will be upgraded with support for slo-mo recording at 120fps. Reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in April that the front camera will be upgraded from 7MP to 12MP.

Other specs which the sources reiterated include the A13 chipset, OLED displays for the successors of the iPhone XS and XS Max, LCD display for the successor of the iPhone XR, and the continued use of Lightning port on the 2019 iPhones.
