The local actress, who celebrates her 61st birthday on Oct 10, shared photos taken with him in an Instagram post yesterday (Oct 8): "My childhood friend...
"When I first knew him, I thought he was a stalker because he followed me all the way home. Later, I realised he actually stayed at one of the blocks in my estate."
Xiuhuan and the 65-year-old former actor eventually became good friends and she even introduced him to her family members.
"We used to live in a kampung and our home was very lively as we enjoyed hosting friends. Guests who visited would have instant noodles, luncheon meat and fried egg," she recounted, adding that Shinan was just like a family member after visiting frequently.
Believing that Shinan was "influenced" by her, they both entered Singapore showbiz, debuting in the 1980s after attending Singapore Broadcasting Corporation's (now Mediacorp) drama training course.
Xiuhuan recounted how Shinan revealed his crush on local actress Pan Lingling while she was filming one day.
She shared: "Once, I was filming a costume drama in the middle of nowhere and he especially came to the drama set in the middle of the night to tell me, 'I like a girl very much.'
"When I heard it was her, I told him immediately, 'This girl is very beautiful, tall and kind. She is a good person. (I met her at drama training classes before.)"
After that, Shinan began pursuing Lingling. They went on to get married in 1996 and have two sons together.
Tagging Lingling in her post, Xiuhuan quipped: "Do you want to thank me for it?"
She added this is a secret that even Lingling didn't know.
Xiuhuan ended her post by reflecting: "From knowing each other since childhood to entering the entertainment industry together, and continuing to witness each other's lives to this day...
"Thank you, Shinan and Lingling, for the friendship we've shared all these years. I have always cherished it."
