Daniel Wu nearly dies after appendix ruptures

Don't ignore your body's warning signs, Daniel Wu learnt the hard way recently.

He had a close brush with death after delaying treatment for appendicitis, the 44-year-old actor revealed in an interview with Hong Kong media last week.

When he started to vomit while having dinner one night, Daniel thought he had food poisoning.

He was still feeling ill the following day so he saw a doctor and was prescribed medication for gastroenteritis.

But his condition did not improve over the next two days.

"I was in a lot of pain. It felt like someone was kicking me in my crotch every 10 minutes!" Daniel recalled.

With his wife Lisa S. out of town at the time, he sought help from his sister who rushed him to a hospital.

There, a CT scan showed that he was suffering from appendicitis.

By then, his inflamed appendix had ruptured and he was wheeled into surgery immediately.

His doctor, however, did not remove the entire appendix because it was so swollen, there was a possibility that other organs might be punctured in the process.

Daniel underwent a procedure to clear his intestines and was put on an anti-inflammatory drip for a week.

"My doctor said that he had never seen such a serious condition since doing this kind of surgery for 10 years. He said I would have died if I waited another day," Daniel added.

Since his appendix was not completely removed during surgery, Daniel said there's a small chance of relapse. Doctors are currently monitoring his condition.

When his wife learnt about his ordeal, she scolded him for bearing with the pain until it was almost too late.

It's fortunate that he asked for help, or we would've lost another star.
