Here's what you need to know about top K-movie Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days

If you find the title familiar, it's the sequel to Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, which took over the silver screens in Singapore in January this year.

While the prequel touches on the filial piety and familial ties among Kim Ja Hong (Cha Tae Hyun's character), his brother Kim Su Hong (played by Kim Dong Wook) and their mother, the new movie addresses what happens to his brother, who was murdered in the last movie, in the afterlife.

The movie sees Ha Jung Woo, Ju Ji Hoon and Kim Hyang Gi reprising their roles as the guardians - or grim reapers - Dong Wook playing his role again as the dead soldier, Su Hong.

They are joined by Ma Dong Seok, who plays a household god.

Also returning to the screens are Lee Jung Jae (Kim Yeomra), Do Kyung Soo or better known as EXO's D.O. (Private Won Dong Yeon) and Lee Joon Hyuk (Park Moo Shin).

While the movie touches on what actually happened to Su Hong, it largely centres on the backstories of the three guardians and what happened in their previous lives - with a shocking twist.

If the first movie made you cry for two-and-a-half hours - yes, it was that sad - this movie will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions as you'll be tickled by Dong Seok's scenes, but find your heart breaking as the movie progresses and a lot more is revealed.

The cast, made up mostly of veteran actors, undoubtedly have impressive acting chops, but we reckon the stars of the show are the two younger actors, Kim Hyang Gi whose acting will move you to tears, and Do Kyung Soo, who will make you laugh, then cry in a matter of minutes.

Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds broke records when it got 10 million viewers in just 16 days after its release in South Korea in December last year, but Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days beat that record to chart the same number of moviegoers in just 14 days!

It's no wonder that the director has confirmed the third and fourth installments - and the last scene of Along with the Gods: The Last 49 Days hints at what the third movie would revolve around.

If our advice for the last movie was to bring a lot of tissues, what we'd say for this movie is to not only bring tissue paper, but also to empty your bladder before going into the theatre because you wouldn't want to miss any of the scenes.

Being a sequel, a lot of references are drawn from the first movie, so if you didn't catch the prequel, you might not fully understand what goes on in the movie.
