Chinese New Year in Singapore just isn't the same without a Jack Neo film playing in cinemas.

And this year, the home-grown filmmaker is releasing his first-ever action comedy film titled Killer Not Stupid《杀手不笨》which is slated for a Feb 5 islandwide release.

On Wednesday (Jan 23), Neo, 58, was joined by the cast of his movie for a gala screening held at Golden Village VivoCity.

Celebrities present include Taiwanese stars Lin Yu-chih (better known as Nadow) and Mandopop duo Awaking member Jay Shih, Malaysian Gadrick Chin as well as local actors Ryan Lian and Apple Chan.

Killer Not Stupid is Neo's 31st movie and was shot mainly in Taichung, Taiwan - a first for the director. The title is a nod to his 2002 hit comedy film, I Not Stupid.

In a quote carried by The Straits Times, Neo said: "I have always wanted to go beyond the Singapore market and I realised that Taiwan audiences have been supportive of my films when they air on television."

With a production budget of $3 million, the movie tells the story of two assassins on their way to finish a final mission before ending their careers. Along the way, things get complicated as they are each hunted by their own enemies.

Killer Not Stupid also stars other Taiwanese actors and comedians Amber An, Lin Mei-Hsiu, and Shin Lung.

Media interviews originally planned on Thusday (Jan 24) were cancelled out of respect, after the passing of local actor Aloysius Pang. News of the 28-year-old's death was only released after the gala screening was held.
