Every Singaporean and their mother have probably already been to Japan's major cities like Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. But there's more to Japan than Shibuya Crossing, Dotonbori and Arashiyama Bamboo Forest.

But if you have no clue where else in Japan's 47 prefectures you should visit for your next trip, fret not, you'll find inspiration in the new Beyond the Cities, Into the Heart of Japan ad campaign from the Japan National Tourism Organisation (JNTO).

These out-of-home ads will be easy to spot because they'll show glimpses of Japan Singaporeans will rarely see if they've only visited top tourist spots. You won't find skyscrapers or theme parks; instead, you'll see images of aquamarine oceans with white sand beaches, crimson red maple leaves and powder pink cherry blossoms from places like Okinawa, Chugoku, Hokuriku Shinetsu and Hokkaido.

If you're so inclined to visit these picturesque places, you're in luck. JNTO wants to bring two sets of lucky winners to Japan to visit an out-of-major-cities destination of their choice.

And it's easy to participate. Just look out for these ads and find the QR code. Scan it, and it'll lead you to complete a survey that will enter you into a lucky draw. Entries are limited to one per person and must be submitted during the campaign period of Aug 7, 6am, to Sept 3, 9pm, to qualify.

To help you get started, here's a helpful hint as to where you'll be able to find JNTO's ads:

  • Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station - On five pillars where the three lines meet
  • Serangoon MRT Station - On two walls near the North-East Line
  • In screen displays in 500 taxis
  • Interiors of MRT trains along the Downtown Line

Two winners will be randomly selected during a livestream on the JNTO Instagram page, and they'll walk away with either a pair of Economy Class return air tickets, or a single Business Class return air ticket, on All Nippon Airways.

Whether it's your 100th time visiting Japan or you're wondering if there's more to Japan than glitzy lights, check out the eastern archipelago's natural wonders, coming soon to public transport near you.
