Pritam Singh impresses Bedok residents with Hokkien song during Hungry Ghost Festival celebration

It seems that Pritam Singh can indeed sing.

The Workers' Party chief wowed attendees at a Hungry Ghost Festival celebration with a Hokkien song over the weekend on Saturday (Aug 29).

A clip of the performance posted to Facebook group Singapore Incident showed the MP for Aljunied GRC performing Ai Pia Cia E Yia (which translates to To Win, You Have to Fight) by Taiwanese singer Yeh Chi-tien.

In the one-minute-long video, Pritam can be seen starting to sing at a void deck before walking out to the carpark area as he continues the song — with some residents filming the performance and others applauding.

Netizens were just as impressed by Pritam's ability to hold a tune in a dialect, with some leaving comments to express this.

One comment read: "He can really sing lah."

"Woah he sings so well! I love it," another netizen wrote.

Several comments also praised Pritam for his continuous efforts to connect with his constituents through such events and expressed their support for him as an MP.

Others, however, were less impressed.

Some comments stated that politicians were turning into entertainers, while others brought up Pritam's recent brushes with the law to express their discontentment with the MP.

Pritam also briefly shared about the event, which took place at Block 147 Bedok Reservoir Road, in a Facebook post on the same day.

"Grateful for these small events which are central to life in Singapore," Pritam wrote, adding that Jimmy — the organiser for this celebration — has been a longtime supporter of the community.
