View it like Beckham: We try on David Beckham's newly-launched eyewear collection

Aside from his legendary free-kick goals, his marriage to a Spice Girl, and speaking really softly, David Beckham’s also known for his keen fashion sense.

Now, the former pro footballer can add his own range of eyewear to his wardrobe. The 44-year-old sporting and fashion icon debuted DB Eyewear in Milan back in January, a collection of spectacles and sunglasses with classic frame aesthetics.

It’s no DIY project, however. Beckham teamed up with renowned Italian eyewear manufacturer Safilo — the brand behind other collaborative collections with Dior, Fendi and Givenchy — so you know they’re high-end pieces. But what Beckham and his marketing team would like you to know is that these glasses combine “effortless, British style and attitude” with a “vintage, timeless spirit”.

That being said, DB Eyewear is no slouch in the technical department too. The frames are crafted in lightweight materials and special mineral, while the option for photochromic lenses allow for the specs to go dark for comfortable use outdoors and turn clear when indoors.

The bottom line is that these eyewear will likely look spiffy on anyone, but sadly, it won’t exactly turn their mugs into something as handsome as Beckham’s.

For a pair of high-fashion glasses, their prices aren’t that bad. The recommended retail price ranges from $230 to $385, and they’re stocked islandwide at select stores:

  • Eyedentity (PLQ Mall)
  • Clarity Eyecare (The Grandstand)
  • Paris Miki
  • Pearl’s Optical (People’s Park Complex)
  • Pearl’s Visioncare (Heartland Mall)
  • Eye Couture (Paragon)
  • W Optics (Suntec City Mall, Vivocity, Great World City)
  • Vision Lab (Waterway Point)
  • Eyecare Studio Optometrist (Seletar Mall)
