An unidentified body was found in the wheel well of an aircraft that landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 on Thursday (Aug 27), The Star reported.

An engineering staff member was servicing the aircraft which arrived from Tokyo when he noted a foul smell emanating from the landing gear compartment.

About 30 minutes later, the employee opened the compartment and found the body, immediately notifying police.

A police forensics team was later called to the scene.

The deceased's gender has yet to be determined, but has been described as being clad in a white shirt and jeans, The New Straits Times reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest the deceased was in their 20s and had been dead for more than 72 hours, Daily Express reported.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the identity and cause of death.
