Malaysian badminton star Lee Zii Jia heads to court amid family management dispute

KUALA LUMPUR — National badminton player Lee Zii Jia is seeking a High Court order to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) of LZJ Management Sdn Bhd, alongside an injunction restricting certain financial and management decisions at the company.
The Star reported on Tuesday (Oct 13) that Zii Jia filed an originating summons on July 2, naming his father Lee Chee Hin, sister Lee Zii Yii, younger brother Lee Tao and the company as respondents.
The application seeks to prevent Chee Hin and Zii Yii, who are directors of the company, from approving additional directors’ fees, allowances, bonuses or other financial benefits for themselves beyond their monthly salaries.
Zii Jia also wants to prevent decisions involving the appointment or removal of directors, changes to the company secretary, disposal of major assets, issuance of new shares and changes to the shareholding structure without court approval.
His lawyer, Ahmad Zayd Ahmad Zuber of Messrs Faisal & Zayd, told The Star that the application was intended to enable the EGM to take place while preserving the company's existing arrangements.
“It is just an application to maintain the status quo between the parties,” he was quoted as saying.
According to Zii Jia’s supporting affidavit, a previous attempt to hold an EGM on Dec 22, 2025, failed after the three family members did not attend despite receiving notice, The Star reported.
Zii Jia subsequently explored other ways to arrange the meeting, including seeking assistance from the Companies Commission of Malaysia.
However, Ahmad Zayd declined to disclose the main purpose of the proposed EGM.
The injunction application is scheduled to be heard before High Court judge Leong Wai Hong on Nov 25.
The legal proceedings come shortly after Zii Jia reached the semi-finals of the Arctic Open in Finland, where he lost to Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in three games.
