Officer's caning demonstration at Malacca prison gets so intense, he smacks off his ID card

A prison officer's intense caning demonstration at a prison in Malacca, Malaysia, has caught attention online after a video of the session was posted on social media.
In a video shared on Threads by myrul_arif on Tuesday (Oct 6), the officer can be seen demonstrating how a prisoner would be caned using a dummy.
Demonstrating the motions involved in judicial caning, he repeatedly swings the cane in wide, forceful arcs, building up momentum before striking the dummy.
The demonstration gets so vigorous that the identification card attached to the officer's uniform is knocked loose, prompting him to take it off.
The Threads user suggested that prison officers should be invited to schools to give talks and conduct live demonstrations for students.
"I hope the school teachers call the prison department to come and give a lecture and hold a live demo like this in front of the school kids," he wrote in his post.
He added that bringing along "the warden like the one from Melaka prison" would make the session even more effective.
Other versions of the demonstration have also been shared online, showing prison officers demonstrating the caning procedure to members of the public.
Similar demonstrations have also been held at other public events, with past videos showing prison officers conducting caning demonstrations at the Malaysia Prison Museum.

Caning is also used as a form of corporal punishment in Singapore for certain offences.
According to Associate Director at A.W. Law LLC Muhammad Hasif, judicial caning is carried out on male offenders aged between 18 and 50. It is administered on the buttocks, with the offender secured in a prone position.
The number of strokes depends on the offence and the sentence imposed by the court.
Singapore's caning system is separate from the prison discipline system and is carried out by trained prison officers.
Caning remains one of the country's most serious forms of corporal punishment and is prescribed for offences including certain cases of robbery, rape, drug trafficking and vandalism.
