Some rules, such as paying tolls, are hard to forget and it seems this applies to one driver even during dire situations.

He was being pursued by police, but still wanted to pay the toll before speeding away.

Closed circuit television footage from a toll booth in Selangor shows the driver of a silver colour van speeding towards the gantry, while a police patrol in hot pursuit with its sirens on.

At the toll booth, the  driver is seen using his Touch n' Go card to make payment.

Meanwhile, a police officer from the patrol car steps forward in an attempt to stop the van driver and make him exit the vehicle.

After some moments of tussle, the van driver decides to dash through the gantry.

Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the 41-year-old was spotted using his mobile phone while driving along a road in Sri Petaling at about 1.20pm on Oct 31.

Two police officers attempted to stop the van, but instead of complying with their instructions to stop, the driver made a U-turn and sped off, prompting the officers to give chase, he said.

"The pursuit continued from Sri Petaling (in Kuala Lumpur) towards the Maju Expressway before the suspect was eventually intercepted along Persiaran APEC in Cyberjaya (in Selangor)," he said.

According to the police chief, the runaway van crashed into several vehicles during the pursuit.

He added that a search of the van did not uncover anything illegal, but the 41-year-old driver later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Police investigations are ongoing.
