Woman arrested after brandishing knife, allegedly smashing car windscreens in Kedah

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly brandished a knife and smashed the windscreens of two cars in Malaysia. 

The incident occurred at about 10.30pm on Monday (Aug 10) outside a burger restaurant in Taman Kemuning, Kulim.

A video of the scene shared on Facebook by user Syed Elyas Sys shows the woman walking into a parking lot with what appears to be a large knife in her hand. 

She is heard yelling before driving the vegetable knife into nearby cars and damaging the vehicles. A police car stops nearby and one officer is seen trying to communicate with her. 

The woman then storms off and heads into a restaurant as the officer and several passers-by chase after her.   

Kulim district police chief Syamsul Sinring told local media that the woman had approached a car, which belonged to a factory worker, in the parking lot before damaging the vehicle. 

He added that a police car arrived and officers subsequently arrested the woman, according to Malaysia publication China Press. 

There were reportedly no injuries and the 33-year-old was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment, according to local media reports. 

The woman reportedly has a mental health card and has been receiving psychiatric treatment at Kulim Hospital since 2012, with her last treatment in June. 

Syamsul said that the woman is not married and initially lived with her mother, who later left to live with her other children in Butterworth, reported China Press. 

Police investigations are ongoing under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief and thereby causing damage, he added.
