PUBLISHED ONSeptember 24, 2026 11:36 AMBYSean LerSingapore's sprint queen Shanthi Pereira is through to the 100m semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Games in Japan after coming in second in her heat on Thursday (Sept 24).
The 30-year-old clocked a time of 11.43s at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, just behind China's Chen Yujie (11.41s).
The semi-finals will be on Friday afternoon, followed by the final later that evening.
She won the event's silver in Hangzhou in 2023.
Pereira will also be aiming to become the first female sprinter to defend her 200m title at the Asian Games on Saturday.
In July, she made history by becoming the first Singaporean sprinter to qualify for an individual final at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland.
The six-time SEA Games medallist recorded her season's bests in the 100m (11.24s) and 200m (22.81s) in Glasgow.
