60 new charges against alleged pimp in underage sex scandal

60 new charges have been filed against the alleged pimp of the online vice ring involved in the underage sex scandal.

The Straits Times reported that 56 of these charges, which were tendered against Tang Boon Thiew, 39, in closed-door proceedings two weeks ago, are for abetting commercial sex with a minor under 18. The remaining four are for offences under the Women's Charter - one each for procuring a 27-year-old Singaporean and 25-year-old Malaysian for prostitution here, and two for living off their earnings.

He is now facing a total of 95 charges.

48 men were charged last month for allegedly engaging in paid sex with a girl, who was said to be 17 when the offences took place. This was between the period between September 2010 and February last year.

They were said to have procured the girl's services through a social escort website that Tang - suspected of being the girl's pimp - had set up.

Former Pei Chun Public School principal Lee Lip Hong, 39, was jailed for nine weeks after pleading guilty to sleeping with the girl on Sept 26, 2010.

In his trial, it was revealed that Tang arranged sessions with the girl - fixing the details of the price and meeting place - through SMS. This is believed to be the same arrangement for the other men.

The girl was said to have charged between $450 to $850 a session, with Tang taking a cut.

While prostitution is legal in Singapore, those found having paid sex with a minor can be penalised with jail of up to seven years and a fine.

The other men involved in the case are due back in court next month, while investigations into 14 other men are ongoing.
