Kai Ting Chuang Is Relishing Her First Title Defence

Twenty-three-year-old ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion Kai Ting Chuang is all set to play a starring role at ONE: KINGDOM OF HEROES.
The Chinese striker, who captured the inaugural title by defeating multiple-time Muay Thai World Champion Yodcherry Sityodtong at ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS in July, will put her newly-won belt on the line in Bangkok on Saturday, 6 October.
She will face another Thai star, promotional newcomer Stamp Fairtex.
The bout will form the co-main event of the evening on a historic night at the Impact Arena that will see the WBC Super Flyweight World Boxing Title contested in the headline bout of the evening.
“It’s a huge honour, but it also means a huge responsibility,” she says.
“I can do better, and I feel like I can still make a lot of progress. I am looking forward to the next challenge and defending my golden belt.”
Her opponent Stamp is another hugely-experienced Muay Thai competitor, but “Killer Bee” overcame a similary-experienced athlete to win the World Title and says her opponent’s 60-15-5 record will not be a factor when they face off for the belt.
“I think she has more experience than me, but that doesn’t really matter,” she says.
“To me, skills and confidence are what control the fight.”
“I have been watching her videos. I’m aware that she’s good with high kicks. Therefore, I included high-knee skills and defensive moves in my training.
“I am a ‘speed’ type of fighter, but this time, I worked to improve my physical power and strength, as well.”
As well as the experience advantage, Chuang also knows she’ll be conceding home advantage to Stamp, who will be challenging for the title in front of her home crowd in Bangkok.
However, the upbeat Chinese World Champion says the cheers for her opponent will only serve to spur her on to success on what promises to be a memorable night in Thailand.
“There will be many Thais in the audience, but I’m pretty sure I can’t understand anything they will be saying, so I will take it as them cheering for me,” she jokes.
“I want to give a wonderful fight, and add surprises every time, so that people remember me.”
