It took the full 15 minutes to decide a winner, but Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol emerged with her hand raised after her gruelling atomweight clash with Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Lumban Gaol’s striking dominance over the three rounds handed Torres the first defeat of her career at ONE: CONQUEST OF HEROES inside the Jakarta Convention Center on Saturday, 22nd September.
In the first round, it looked like the Catalan Fighting System athlete’s wrestling would be the deciding factor in the contest, as Torres worked to take “Thathie” to the mat, and succeeded on several occasions.
Lumban Gaol searched for a guillotine, but spent most of the round working with her back on the canvas without much success.
After some wise words from her corner team from Siam Training Camp, the Jakarta native pleased the crowd by fending off the takedown attempts from her opponent in round two.
As Torres continued to reach for the legs, Lumban Gaol successfully stayed standing, landing hard knees to the head of “The Zamboanginian Fighter.”
Torres remained tenacious in her search for the takedown when the contest entered the final period, but by this point, “Thathie” had the measure of her attempts to drag the bout to the ground.
Her dominance grew as the round wore on, as Lumban Gaol stuffed takedowns, landed hard knees to the head, and peppered her foe with punches and low kicks.
Torres’ inability to change a failing game plan meant Lumban Gaol maintained control as time wore on and the match-up moved towards the final bell.
In the end, she was the clear victor, getting the nod from all three judges and pushing her record to 4-3.
