Thai construction worker gets mistaken for a motor-taxi driver, sends student to school anyway

We've all been there — being mistaken for a store's staff by a fellow customer, or more often than not, making the same mistake ourselves just because a person's wearing an outfit that resembles a store's uniform.

While we'd be embarrassed and feel like sticking our heads into the sand, a construction worker in Thailand took a student's mistake in stride when she mistook him for a motorcycle-taxi driver and ferried her to her destination.

The student shared her story on Twitter.

"Today's joke. I was late and rushing to class, so when I saw an orange-clad biker, I signalled to him. He stopped his motorcycle in front of me, I jumped on and asked him to send me to the pier."

It took her a while to realise that she was riding a construction worker's bike, not a motor-taxi.

In Thailand, motor-taxi drivers are identified by their bright orange vests. While they have numbers and an identification card on their backs, the vests resemble those worn by construction workers.

In her haste, the student had mixed them up.

And she only realised her mistake when she noticed the peculiar shape of his helmet.

"I thought it was odd that his helmet looks more like a construction worker's than a motorcyclist's. He turned out to be a construction worker."

The motorcyclist not only ferried her to her destination, but he also refused to accept her money. But that didn't stop her from stuffing cash into his hands before running away.

She's not the only one to have mistaken the two professions for each other. Other netizens chimed in with their own experiences, one of them even shared what it was like to be an impromptu motor-taxi driver.

These tweets made us feel all warm and fuzzy inside, knowing how kind people can be when it comes to helping one another. After all, being selfless is priceless.
