Student and the internet get shock of their lives after mistaking hanging laundry for hanged person

Safe to say the internet was collectively startled recently, when users came across a photo of what looked like a hanged body in the corridor of a building.

Twitter user melontyea posted the freakish photo on June 4, with the tweet swiftly going viral, gaining 10,000 retweets at the time of writing.

Along with the caption "shocking", the tweet showed a zoomed in photo of the 'body' and another photo which revealed the truth.

It turns out that the 'body', was actually someone's laundry.

According to Chinese media on June 5, the 'body' was reportedly discovered by a student in Huaqiao University. It is unclear when the incident occurred.

The university student was terrified at first as the 'body' seemed to be absolutely still. The report added that he almost called the police, but went up to check on the 'body' only to discover that the only thing hanging, was a set of wet clothes.

What made it so realistic was the unfortunate placement of a dress, white shirt and black trousers, and the angle from which he was standing, which made the whole set-up look uncannily like a hanged body.

The same photo was also posted on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, where many users commented on how the same situation would have shocked them too.

Calling it too deliberate for it to be a coincidence, they shared that the way the clothes was placed really made it look like a 'body' at first glance.

They wondered if the clothes were purposely hung in this manner to prank other students in the campus.

One user took the jokes one step further, telling the student to take photo of the body with a Huawei phone instead to make sure it is laundry, referencing the phone's excellent zooming capabilities.

One thing's for sure, it sure takes some skill to hang clothes like this.
