If the likes of Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Zero Dawn were not enough to satiate your craving for more future, post-apocalyptic adventures, then the latest announcement from developers Guerrilla Games should be exciting news.

Over the weekend, the studio has confirmed that it is working on a multiplayer title set in the Horizon universe.

Instead of featuring heroine Aloy, the new game will instead boast a cast of new characters, alongside a new art style to hammer home the point that it is a different kind of experience.

The confirmation follows after a recent job advertisement posted by the studio, revealing that "a new internal team is developing a separate Online Project set in Horizon's universe."

To understand a bit more of what to expect from this multiplayer Horizon game, we can look at the job listings themselves.

The narrative designer is expected to "tell a deep, complex story" for players, whereas the game writer has to "pitch compelling ideas for quests, factions, and backstories" which is more in line with the mainline games.

Then there is combat, with the lead combat designer expected to create a "variety of enemies (Machines & Humanoids) that focus on exciting combat with cooperative elements."

Of course, this is not the first time that the Horizon universe has been touted to enter the multiplayer arena, with earlier rumours suggesting that it will be co-op in nature.

Now, with this official confirmation, the speculation will only go into overdrive.

This new Horizon multiplayer game will be accompanied by the upcoming PS VR 2 adventure, Horizon Call of the Mountain, as well as the DLC for the second game, Burning Shores, that will come in 2023.
