Britney Spears says her ill-fated marriage to Sam Asghari was a "fake distraction" from being "cut off" from her sons.
The 43-year-old singer's sons Jayden James, 18, and Sean Preston, 19, moved to Hawaii with their father Kevin Federline in 2023 but her relationship with them was strained even before then. Britney believes her short marriage to Sam was just a way for her to distract from her grief.
Britney — who tied the knot with Sam in June 2022 before they split in July 2023 — wrote on Instagram: "We're just people, so fragile and human. The hardest years of my life were my two sons gone for those 3 years… I was cut off from calling or texting and I remember in shock my secret to survival was denial and a lot of tears. It's weird me and Sam were married but it almost felt like a fake distraction to help me deal with it."
However, with her relationship with her sons on the mend, Britney believes that she is now healing.
She wrote: "I know I'm healing because I'm hungry again like a child or baby… I'm so hungry it hurts and when I eat, it's like my first time ever eating in my life… I believe although I loved my home, there is waaay too much abuse and trauma in there…
"Today I thank Jesus for food. It feels like telling others no… owning my body… and letting them really know where I'm from… My soul has never experienced food like this a day in my life… so silly and embarrassing. I'm going to eat cookies and cream ice cream now… god bless u all."
In Nov 2024, it was reported that Jayden had visited his mother in Los Angeles and that December, both boys spent Christmas with Britney.
She wrote on Instagram at the time: "Best Christmas of my life!"
