Carina Lau owns diamond tiara said to cost $1.7m; shares even husband Tony Leung doesn't know the price

Every princess needs a tiara, or if you're Carina Lau.

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, and one might consider the Hong Kong actress a poster girl for the precious gems, what with her 12-carat Cartier wedding ring and appearances at the French jeweller's high-end galas.

So it doesn't come as a surprise that Carina's personal collection reportedly costs a fortune. Her diamond tiara, in particular, is estimated to cost around HK$10 million (S$1.74 million), according to a Toggle report.

Earlier in June, Cartier and Beijing's Palace Museum collaborated to hold Beyond Boundaries: Cartier and The Palace Museum Craftsmanship and Restoration Exhibition, showcasing fine goods dating back to the Ming Dynasty.

Of all the exhibitions on display, the most eye-catching piece was a diamond tiara crafted in 1906. Despite the fact that it was listed as part of a private collection, several eagle-eyed fans realised at once that the tiara's owner was none other than Carina herself. It turns out that Carina had graciously loaned her beloved tiara to Cartier just for the exhibition.

The first time Carina was seen with the tiara was back in May 2018 when she posted a selfie of her wearing the tiara on Instagram. In an interview at the time, she smiled and said that it was love at first sight and she wasted no time in purchasing it. While she's known to be the richest female celebrity investor in China, she clarified that she bought it for no other reason beyond simply liking it.

Carina also shared that as she and her husband, Tony Leung, have different interests, she hadn't dared to tell him the cost of the tiara. She did, however, sweetly admit that Tony expressed that Carina was his most precious gem.

As for the tiara, netizens believe that she had bought it at an extremely high retail price, as she would not have otherwise hidden the cost from her husband.
