G.E.M said to have married boyfriend of 8 years in New York

G.E.M is said to have tied the knot with her celebrity stylist boyfriend Mark Ngai after eight years together.

Hong Kong media reported yesterday (Oct 6) that the 35-year-old Hong Kong singer-songwriter and Ngai held an intimate wedding ceremony in a church in New York, according to sources close to the latter's circle of family and friends. She has just ended her three-year world tour.

G.E.M, whose real name is Gloria Tang, and Ngai began their romance in 2016 and went public in 2018.

Marriage rumours have surfaced throughout their relationship, but her representatives had previously denied them immediately.

In 2020, they were rumoured to have hosted a tropical island wedding in Thailand over the Lunar New Year holiday. G.E.M's manager dismissed the news then as "so funny", adding that "there is no need to congratulate her".

When China paparazzi speculated on their marriage again in 2022, her studio responded playfully in a Weibo post, asking how she could have completed the paperwork without them knowing.

However, when approached by reporters yesterday about the alleged wedding, G.E.M's management company Sony Music Entertainment said they have no comments on their artiste's private life.

This further fuelled netizens' speculations that the rumours are true this time.

Ngai's wealthy family background also came under attention again after the rumours.

According to a report by The Standard yesterday, his grandfather was from a Shanghai textile family and moved to Hong Kong later, where he started a finance and trading company. He was also briefly married to Hong Kong actress Rosamund Kwan.

Ngai's younger sister Joyce was a Miss Hong Kong pageant contestant and had hosted TVB programmes including Big City Shop, while his mother Jeanie is a businesswoman who co-started a high-end Italian restaurant in Hong Kong.
