Japanese men find 55-year-old Hiroshi Abe's body most attractive

Guys, take notes because bulk is out, lean is in, and old is gold for Japan's desired summer bod.

A muscular physique and overly sculpted abs that you'll want to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner off of?

Who cares?

Downsize that fantasy hunk and serve us Hiroshi Abe realness because that's the body type that Japanese men long for the most.

Oricon News' annual poll surveyed 500 Japanese males between the age of 10 and 59 to find out their ideal body type and the 55-year-old actor-model came out top with his lean and toned physique.

The results were published last Friday (Aug 23) and Hiroshi's win was surprising considering that he didn't even break into the top 10 in last year's poll.

Hiroshi is known for his roles in the award-winning film Still Walking, the kaiju film Godzilla 2000 and the Japanese television comedy-drama Trick.

According to Oricon News, what secured his win was his role in the 2012 live-action film adaptation of the manga series Thermae Romae.

In the film, Hiroshi played a Roman architect named Lucius who time travels to modern-day Japan and adapted the idea of a bathhouse for ancient Rome to great success.

Needless to say, he worked out in his spare time in preparation for his bod-baring scenes and those were definitely wet, hot, and steamy.

Quite literally. He was in a bathhouse after all.

His transformation was so impressive that a moviegoer apparently remarked that he was "indistinguishable from the ancient Romans".

Taking the second spot is Koshi Inaba, best known as the singer and lyricist of Japanese rock duo, B'z.

Besides sporting a similar physique to Hiroshi, Koshi is just taking our breath away with his smouldering gaze.

If looks could kill, he won't even need his martial arts skill to make us submit.

And yes, the 54-year-old rocker keeps his body in check as a martial arts enthusiast.

Coming in third place is musician-actor Oshiro Gakuto, better known for his stage name Gackt.

It seems that Gackt isn't a stranger to thirst traps as it was way easier to find shirtless pictures of him online. For those who champion the conventional definition of male body perfection, Gackt's your representation on this poll.

He shared pictures of his workout and his body on Weibo and we will say this. He looked so toight and so foine that he clearly shivered his fans' timbers.

The island of Gackt may not be 'colonised' at this point but it's been reported that he's not interested in marriage.

The full poll can be viewed here and it's interesting to note that while Asian male beauty has shifted to favour softer and more feminine features, the poll results revealed that Japan's perspective on male beauty is rather diverse.

Perhaps we should consider starting one for Singapore's own male celebrities?

Our female colleagues said they would vote for Chuando Tan, the 53-year-old photographer who became an overnight sensation for his youthful looks and ripped physique.

And all he apparently needs are three sessions at the gym a week to maintain it.
