OldTown White Coffee to close last outlet in Singapore

Fans of OldTown White Coffee will have less than a week to savour its Malaysian cuisine, with its last day of operations on Oct 11. 

In a Facebook post on Oct 2, the cafe announced the closure of the outlet at Kallang Wave Mall, its last in Singapore.

"After more than 12 years of serving our valued customers at OldTown Kallang Wave, we would like to announce the permanent closure of our outlet."

In its reply to AsiaOne, OldTown White Coffee said that the closure was due to the landlord's decision not to renew its lease.

“Despite efforts to negotiate, we were unable to reach a mutual agreement for an extension," it added.

The company, however, is not ruling out the possibility of returning to Singapore should suitable opportunities arise.

"Thank you for being part of our journey and for making OldTown Kallang Wave a special part of ours. While this chapter comes to an end, we hope our paths will cross again at one of our OldTown outlets across the region," the brand said.

OldTown Coffee added that they will focus expansion through franchising in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East.

At its peak, Old Town had about 10 outlets in Singapore, including in Bukit Timah, Changi Airport, Novena, and Orchard. 

The halal-certified eatery serves its signature white coffee, eggs and toast, as well as mains such as nasi lemak and hor fun.

OldTown White Coffee is one of several Malaysian F&B brands that local actor Mark Lee brought to Singapore. He sold his stake in the business several years after the cafe opened here in 2008.

OldTown White Coffee's Singapore exit joins a list of other recent F&B closures here, including Mamma Mia Focaccia, a deli known for its long queues. 

Seoul Yummy, also at Kallang Wave Mall, will also shutter its final outlet on Oct 22.

Kallang Wave Mall is currently undergoing a revamp which is slated for completion in 2028.
