Wala Wala Cafe Bar was set to wave goodbye to Holland Village in end-August, having ended its lease for the unit this year.

However, it turns out it will not be leaving the neighbourhood, which has long been a popular nightlife hotspot.

"We are heartened to share that Wala Wala Cafe Bar will remain in Holland Village," the F&B establishment said in an Instagram post on Tuesday (Aug 26).

The initial announcement to leave was made in June, when its owner Stanley Yeo told The Business Times that he was in search of a new tenant to take over the space.

He cited the growing challenges of sustaining the business at Holland Village, which included waning footfall and rising operational costs.

"Since then, we have been deeply moved by the overwhelming support from our community — customers, friends, suppliers and neighbours alike. Your visits, stories and kind words have reminded us the role Wala Wala has played in so many lives," the caption read.

Beyond community support, Wala Wala cited the landlord's "generosity and understanding" as reasons behind this U-turn.

The post added that the landlord had "kindly offered revised terms", allowing the F&B establishment to extend its stay in Holland Village.

"We now know that Wala Wala continues to hold meaning — not just as a venue, but as a gathering place, a shared memory and a part of the village’s heartbeat.

"To everyone who has walked with us through this uncertain chapter — thank you. We look forward to continuing the journey, right here at home."

The positive news shared by Wala Wala is a stark contrast to the realities faced by other longstanding establishments that have left Holland Village in recent times.

In May 2024, Thambi Magazine Store shuttered for good — ending its 80-year run.

Six months later, another iconic family business in the area, Lim's Holland Village announced its closure.
