Malaysian man, high on drugs, arrested for allegedly slashing throat of 5-year-old nephew

A 49-year-old man in Sibu, Sarawak, has been remanded as police investigate the fatal attack on his five-year-old nephew.

The man allegedly slashed the boy's throat before calling the child's mother and telling her what had happened.

The Borneo Post reported on Saturday that the man was allegedly behaving erratically and experiencing hallucinations after taking methamphetamine, also known as Ice.

His behaviour reportedly included cutting his own hair.

A urine test later returned positive for methamphetamine.

Police received a report about the incident at around 1.45pm on Friday, according to the Malay Mail.

The boy was rushed to hospital but was later pronounced dead, The Borneo Post reported.

The incident took place at a house where only the suspect, the boy and the boy's grandmother were present at the time.

The boy's mother was at work when the incident happened.

Neighbour heard grandmother's cries for help

A neighbour told Sin Chew Daily that the boy's mother had dropped him off at the house, and was being taken care of by his grandmother.

The neighbour said the grandmother's cries for help could then be heard from the house.

The neighbour and others rushed out and saw the man allegedly holding a parang on the road and making a phone call.

They reportedly heard him tell the person on the other end: "I've already killed your son."

The Borneo Post reported that police urged the public to refrain from speculation and sharing unverified information while investigations are ongoing.
