Two sisters were killed after being trapped in a fire that destroyed two adjoining double-storey houses in Perak, on Friday (Oct 16).

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon said the department received an emergency call at around 9am, and firefighters arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later, reported Bernama.

The victims were aged 15 and 18.

"They found the blaze involved two adjoining houses, which were almost 90 per cent destroyed," said Sayani, adding that the fire also destroyed four vehicles and a motorcycle.

A total of 20 firefighters, along with six members of a volunteer fire brigade took part in the operation, reported Free Malaysia Today.

The fire was brought under control at 10.30am.

The department's K9 Special Team was also deployed to assist in the investigation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
